How and why have certain people been under-represented or misrepresented? 15 marks
In Les Reventants there is a lot of underrepresentation of minorities. The main character are predominantly white, middle-class people as seen by the poster of the series. There are a mixture of ages, with kids like Viktor, teenagers like Camille and middle-aged with Julie.
However, there is a clear lack of races in the show. The cast is fully white and has little to no representation for other races. This makes people who aren not white feel under-represented as they don't have anyone in the show like them. The reasoning for this under-representation could be due to France's racist history and the creators not wanting to anger their audience. In 2012 representation was a less prominent feature of media and backwards opinions did no help it as older people still had underlying racist opinions, so with Les Revenants target audience mainly being middle-aged people Canal + may have seen it as a risk to include better representation.
Moreover, elderly people may perceive themselves to be misrepresented as being weak and vulnerable
